Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Midwife to join our team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts. Main Responsibilities
  1. Communication and Team Working
  • Facilitate effective communication within the multidisciplinary team to promote patient care.
  • Adhere to NMC and local standards for written documentation and storage of records.
  • Deal with positive and negative feedback from women, recognizing the wider implications for the ward, unit, and Trust.
  • Participate in decision-making regarding women-centered care and development of practice within the ward, unit, and multidisciplinary team.
  • Be an active member of the ward and wider multidisciplinary team, developing confidence in your role and encouraging development of others and contribution to team cohesion.
Clinical Care
  • Support and enable women with diabetes and their families to make informed decisions and choices regarding their treatment and management.
  • Assess, implement, and evaluate care delivered to meet the individual requirements of women with diabetes in all aspects of midwifery.
  • Contribute to the plan of care for women with diabetes.
  • Implement plans of care for women with diabetes in conjunction with the woman's named community midwife and multi-professional team.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and clinical guidelines in support of the diabetes service within the maternity service.
Personal and Professional Conduct
  • Work within the NMC professional code of conduct at all times and Midwives Code and Standards for Practice.
  • Ensure Trust Policy and Procedure are adhered to, including Health and Safety legislation, administration and storage of drugs, clinical incident reporting, infection control, child protection, and safekeeping of patients' property.
  • Be responsible for maintaining and enhancing personal and professional development and providing evidence of competency to enable the formulation of a PDP.
Resource/Change Management
  • Ensure effective management of time and resources.
  • Responsible for coordinating shift on a day-to-day basis.
  • Participate in innovation and implementation of change.
  • Develop leadership and supervision skills for both qualified and unqualified staff.
Research/Education
  • Teach/mentor both qualified and unqualified staff, including student nurses/midwives.

Person Specification

Training and Qualification

  • Registered Midwife.
  • Degree in Midwifery or related subject or evidence of level 3 learning.
  • Evidence of ongoing Education and Development.
  • At least 2 years' experience working as a midwife with an interest in diabetes management in pregnancy.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of care pathway for women with diabetes in pregnancy.

Experience

  • Broad-based midwifery experience.
  • Evidence of multidisciplinary team working.
  • Experience in providing midwifery care to women with diabetes in pregnancy, intrapartum, and postnatally.
