Unqualified Teaching Assistant Role

In Manchester and Greater Manchester, we are launching our National Teaching Assistant Programme to support individuals starting a Teaching Assistant career.

Programme Overview
  • We will provide the successful candidate with high-quality training and paid on-the-job experience in partnership with local schools.
  • Suitable candidates will be secured a paid placement in a school to develop their skills, with ongoing support from a dedicated consultant.
  • Prior to starting their placement, they will complete a training programme delivered by Vision for Education and school leaders, providing essential skills for working as a Unqualified Teaching Assistant.
About the Role
  • The role of an Unqualified Teaching Assistant is crucial in day-to-day school operations. Successful candidates have excellent communication skills, building positive relationships with pupils and staff quickly.
  • Depending on the role and school, they will work with the class teacher to manage behaviour, support interventions, and provide additional support to children with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).
  • They will assist the class teacher with recording and reporting pupil progress and behaviour, ensuring children make good progress in the classroom.

  • Applicants must be compassionate, understanding, and caring.
  • They must be able to build positive relationships with children and young people.
  • Passion for improving outcomes for children and young people is essential.
  • Flexibility, proactivity, and teamwork are key requirements.
  • A strong understanding of keeping children and young people safe is necessary.
  • Candidates must demonstrate at interview why they want to start a career in education, explaining their understanding of the Teaching Assistant role and its importance in the school community.
  • Commitment to completing required training and participating in ongoing CPD is expected.
  • Applicants must be willing to pay for an enhanced DBS check and register with the Update Service.
