Job Description

Just Recruitment Group is working with a leading Transport and Logistics company, seeking a highly skilled Transport Operations Manager to join their team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage, monitor, and control all responsibilities of the company's operating license to ensure compliance with all undertakings at all times.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of General Haulage, Pallet Networks, to maximize backload potential and revenue per vehicle per day.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and meet customer Service Level Agreements (SLAs) while managing operational costs to achieve financial goals and targets.
  • Lead a team of 65 drivers, planning, and customer service teams, reporting directly to the General Manager.
Key Duties:
  • Fully utilize all IT systems and platforms to ensure the fleet remains legal and compliant, improving efficiency and smooth operation, and maximizing fleet availability.
  • Build, grow, and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders within the company to promote partnership working and improve operational efficiency.
  • Create, promote, and implement clear communication channels with internal departments and external customers to improve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and profitability.
  • Manage all information to ensure it is up-to-date and held in a secure location to comply with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation.
  • Manage driver hours and tachographs, forwarding data to relevant internal departments to ensure accurate records are kept, securely stored, and readily available on request.
  • Lead on the implementation and management of safe working practices, general housekeeping, and manage audits from both external and internal clients to ensure compliance.
  • Monitor and program fleet maintenance, covering all vehicles and trailers, including hire vehicles and trailers, and maintain accurate and full records for 15 months.
  • Monitor driver behaviors, including vehicles and trailers not being overloaded, operating within speed limits, and promptly reporting defects, investigating any infringements, and recording remedial action taken.
  • Manage the compliance of the operating center, including laws relating to driving and operating vehicles, and report any changes to the Traffic Commissioner to ensure compliance.
  • Manage customer service levels, onboarding new customers for a smooth start-up, ensuring sufficient sub-contractors to cover operational needs.
Candidate Requirements:
  • Logistics qualification desirable
  • Transport Managers Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) essential, including TM CPC International
  • Working knowledge of the Highway Code, EU tachograph requirements, Working Time Regulations, and Road Transport Regulations
  • Commercial and financial awareness
  • Working knowledge of transport operation systems
  • Geography of the UK and road networks
  • Health and Safety regulations
  • Relevant transport management experience
  • Analyzing and solving logistic problems
  • Transport operation systems
  • Managing a busy successful Traffic office
