Principal Ecologist
Location: Hybrid role
Salary: £40,000 - £55,000

Overview:
Due to the ongoing expansion and success of our Planning and Environmental Services, Talent Torch is seeking a qualified individual to take on the role of Principal Ecologist. This position will involve overseeing all ecological activities related to various projects.

Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting and managing ecological assessments in support of planning applications and projects across the UK. This includes fieldwork, coordinating subcontractors, and liaising with specialist consultants. The role also encompasses report writing and desk-based research. A critical expectation is to lead the growth of the ecological team through business development and high-quality service delivery.

Working collaboratively within a larger team, you will play an integral role in managing and organizing projects to ensure successful outcomes. The position requires extensive teamwork, client engagement, and preparation of fee proposals.

You will be tasked with developing and maintaining your own portfolio of projects and clients while also providing support to colleagues with their responsibilities.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:
  • Membership of CIEEM (Associate or Full).
  • Demonstrated experience in consultancy, particularly with PEA, EcIA, and protected species surveys.
  • Valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle.
  • Familiarity with the Scottish planning framework, including planning policies and species survey/impact assessment guidelines.
  • Awareness of outdoor working risks and challenges associated with remote work.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bat Survey License Holder.
  • Schedule 1 license holder.
  • Experience in the renewables sector.
  • Degree in a relevant ecological discipline.
  • Expertise and licenses in areas such as great crested newt or advanced botany.
  • Experience as a named ecologist on protected species derogation licenses.
  • Experience in ECoW roles.
  • CSCS Card Holder (ecologist).
  • First aid certification.
  • Off-road driving qualification.
  • Health and safety certifications.
  • Tree climbing and aerial rescue qualifications.
  • Proficiency in QGIS/QField.
