Academic Support Specialist: Literacy Focus

Main Responsibilities
- Deliver programmes of study to small groups of students, promoting academic progress and achievement.
- Identify and support students requiring intervention, ensuring they meet their targets and reach their full potential.
- Liaise with parents to discuss student attendance, progress, and attitude, working together to support student success.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, informing teaching and support strategies.
- Provide constructive feedback and marking, promoting student understanding and improvement.
- Contribute to creating a purposeful learning environment, using behaviour management strategies to support student engagement and motivation.
- Support students in tutor group time, promoting social skills and academic development.
- Highlight individual students' learning needs to teachers, agreeing support strategies to enhance student learning.
- Assist in evaluating student progress, informing teaching and support decisions.
Requirements
- Relevant qualifications in English, Maths, or Science, or equivalent experience.
- Excellent numeracy and literacy skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Knowledge of strategies for working with students with challenging behaviours, and an understanding of social issues affecting disadvantaged students.
- Understanding of child development and learning processes, including barriers to learning.
- Ability to plan effective actions for students at risk of underachieving, and experience of working directly with young people in an education or training environment.
