Job Summary:

Hampshire County Council is seeking a skilled Assistant Highway Engineer to join our progressive and dynamic team. As part of the Highways team, you will assist Highway Engineers with technical support, undertake highway inspections, identify solutions to problems, raise works orders, work closely with our junior service partners, and conduct site audits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to Highway Engineers and undertake highway inspections to identify solutions to problems.
  • Raise works orders and work closely with our junior service partners to ensure effective delivery of the Highways Maintenance service.
  • Conduct site audits to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of maintenance plans to ensure the optimal condition of the highway network.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure effective communication and coordination of highway maintenance activities.

Requirements:

  • Appropriate highways experience and a strong understanding of highway maintenance principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication and customer care skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage a workload with minimum supervision and work flexibly to meet the needs of the team.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and implement solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to travel to various locations within Hampshire and work out of hours to respond to weather and other emergencies.
