Job Description

CPP Investments is seeking a highly skilled and experienced lawyer to join our London office. As a key member of our global legal team, you will provide strategic, creative, and commercial transaction support and advice on investment transactions and asset management across CPP Investments' credit investment strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with deal teams to provide transaction support and advice on a broad range of credit investment opportunities, including leveraged finance, real estate and infrastructure lending, structured credit, and special situations.
  • Engage with deal teams and external counsel on complex deal-specific and institutional-level transactional issues.
  • Provide training and support to deal teams and external counsel on key transactional considerations.
  • Support the development and implementation of Credit Investments Department-level policies, procedures, systems, and training.
  • Collaborate with the Legal department enterprise and compliance teams and other partners across the organization on transaction-related matters.
  • Anticipate and manage legal risks related to new investment strategies and activities, and new or changed laws or regulations that impact CPP Investments' investment strategies.
  • Contribute to Legal Department and CPP Investments-wide initiatives and projects.
Requirements
  • LL.B./LL.M/JD or equivalent required.
  • 7-10 years of post-qualification legal experience in leveraged finance, private credit, or structured credit gained at a major law firm or in-house corporate legal department.
  • Significant transactional experience with leveraged buyouts, structured financial products, and/or direct lending strategies is preferred.
  • MBA, CFA, CA, and/or other relevant industry designations are a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to work cooperatively with many different stakeholders and manage external counsel.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, including off-hours support relating to transactions, international offices, and projects.
  • Professional conduct reflecting the quality of work, demeanor, ethical values, and high standards of CPP Investments.
