Victim Support is seeking an experienced and dedicated Independent Domestic Violence Advocate to join their team in Merton, London. As a key member of the Merton Domestic Abuse Team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality support to victims of domestic abuse, ensuring their safety and well-being.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual who is passionate about making a real difference in the lives of survivors of domestic abuse. You will be working in a hybrid model, both face-to-face and virtually, from home, Merton Civic Centre, and the Merton One Stop Shop.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of domestic abuse, its impact on victims, and their children. They will also have excellent communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills, as well as the ability to work effectively within a multi-agency framework.
In this role, you will be responsible for implementing effective ways of working with victims and those supporting them to increase safety and reduce harm. You will provide front-line support to victims of domestic abuse, delivering a premium service prioritized according to risk, primarily focusing on victim/survivors aged 16+.
You will work closely with local agencies and organizations to ensure a comprehensive response to domestic abuse, prioritizing the safety and well-being of victims. Your strong crisis management skills and ability to deal with stressful situations will be invaluable in this role.
We offer a competitive salary of £30,850 per annum, including a £2,800 per annum London Weighting Allowance, plus a range of benefits, including flexible working options, 28 days annual leave, and pension scheme. About the Role:
- Implement effective ways of working with victims and those supporting them to increase safety and reduce harm.
- Provide front-line support to victims of domestic abuse, delivering a premium service prioritized according to risk, primarily focusing on victim/survivors aged 16+.
- Work within a multi-agency framework consisting of the MARAC and local partnership responses to domestic abuse to keep safety central to all services for victims of domestic abuse.
You Will Need:
- A knowledge of help-seeking barriers and support needs of victims of domestic abuse (in heterosexual or same-sex relationships).
- A good understanding of domestic abuse including the impact of domestic abuse on victims and their children.
- Understand the principles of risk assessment, safety planning, and risk management for victims of domestic abuse and their children.
- Understand safeguarding issues, and the legal responsibilities surrounding these issues.
- Direct service delivery to victims of domestic abuse or other vulnerable people.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills, both written and verbal when interacting with a range of agencies and individuals.
- A strong crisis management skills and the ability to deal with stressful and difficult situations.
