Job Summary

The South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Trust is seeking a skilled and compassionate Healthcare Support Worker to join our team. As a key member of our care team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality support to individuals with mental health needs.

Main Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals, you will provide psychological and physical care to a defined group of individuals, seeking support as needed to deliver care.
  • As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide safe and compassionate care to individuals, maximizing their recovery and rehabilitation potential.
  • You will develop and maintain meaningful therapeutic relationships with individuals, adopting a polite, positive, and empathetic approach to communication.
  • You will demonstrate an understanding of care and treatment programs, enabling you to instruct, advise, and guide individuals and their families.
  • You will be required to concentrate for periods of time, depending on the care intervention and care plan, and respond to issues of concern appropriately.
  • You will exercise independence, initiative, and judgment, considering different approaches when delivering tasks and assessing situations to identify and resolve potential problems.
Requirements
  • A satisfactory sickness record over the previous 2 years.
  • Able to fulfill Occupational Health requirements for the post, with reasonable adjustments if necessary.
  • Must be willing and able to undertake all appropriate Trust mandatory training requirements and subsequent refresher training relevant to the area.
  • Must be willing and able to undergo job development and training.
  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge of service user safety, including prevention and management of violence and aggression, moving and handling, etc.
  • In providing personal care and related procedures for those with health/social needs.
  • In working in a caring environment at a band 2 or equivalent level of competence.
  • In dealing with the public.
  • In working as an effective team member.
  • Ability to work effectively, professionally, and independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • In demonstrating initiative, decision-making, and prioritization skills.
  • Evidence of a commitment to user/carer involvement.
  • GCSE A-D or grade 3-9 in Maths and English or equivalent.
  • Apprenticeship level 3 or equivalent, e.g., RQF (Regulated Qualification Framework) NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
  • Or, level 2 qualification with the ability to demonstrate competencies at level 3.
  • Care Certificate or required to achieve within 12 weeks of commencement.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
  • Level 4 units in Health and Social Care.
  • Experience of the speciality area.
  • Willingness to undertake further study towards level 4 qualification.
  • Language skills other than English.
  • Experience of supervising/inducting others.
