Randstad Student Support is seeking a dedicated Academic Support Specialist to work with students in Aberdeen who have disabilities or mental health conditions. In this vital role, you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference in students' lives by providing personalized support that helps them navigate their academic challenges.

This position offers a hybrid working model, allowing you to deliver both in-person and online sessions. You'll need to be able to travel to local universities or colleges in Aberdeen, offering support that is adaptable to each student's unique needs and preferences.

As an Academic Support Specialist, you will support students on a 1-2-1 basis to:

  1. Create strategies around organization and time management
  2. Break down tasks to meet deadlines
  3. Achieve an appropriate balance in study and daily living
  4. Manage anxiety, stress or low mood
  5. Prepare for new experiences
  6. Build on confidence and strengths to become an independent learner

While working for Randstad, the needs of individual students should be taken into consideration case by case, and you should ensure that any concerns are addressed in a timely manner. Students you will be supporting are funded by the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA), meaning that candidates providing this role must adhere to the qualification framework set out by the DfE.

  • COSCA - Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland

Desirable skills include:

  • Experience of working with clients with disabilities and or mental health conditions
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Relevant professional body memberships
  • Ability to identify ways of helping students to build on their learning strengths while maintaining a confidential and professional working relationship
  • Punctuality and reliability
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to manage a caseload of students
