Small Animal Vet Opportunity on the Northumberland Coast

Alnwick, Northumberland, United Kingdom GLG Vets Full time

Lovely independent veterinary practice situated on the scenic Northumberland coast is seeking a skilled small animal veterinarian to join their team. The ideal candidate will be comfortable covering some large animal out-of-hours work.

  • Mixed practice- Predominantly small animal cases
  • Shared OOH rota
  • 4-day working week with flexible arrangements possible

The practice enjoys a varied caseload, primarily consisting of small animals, with occasional farm work including beef and sheep cases, which are largely seasonal in nature. During peak periods, such as spring and autumn, there may be increased demand for farm-related work, but other times see a greater focus on small animal cases. Notably, the practice collaborates closely with Marine Life Rescue, often receiving calls to treat distressed seals.

We are looking for a full-time veterinarian who specializes in small animal practice, handling larger animal cases only during out-of-hours periods. Alternatively, we welcome candidates who would prefer to take on more farm work or maintain a solely small animal focus. We are open to discussing a tailored rota that suits individual preferences.

In recent efforts to improve work-life balance, we have transitioned to a 4-day working week. Consults last 20 minutes, and our final consultations conclude at 6 pm. Within the 6-week rolling roster, you will work 5 x 4-day weeks and 1 x 5-day week, with approximately 1 in every 6 weekends involving Saturday consults (9 am - 12:30 pm). This revised schedule allows us to accommodate regular long weekends every six weeks, providing valuable time off.

We also consider part-time applicants.

We estimate an annual salary of £70,000 based on national averages and local living costs. Interested candidates can contact Jonathan via the provided information.
