About the Role

At Superscript, we're seeking a skilled Commercial Insurance Underwriter to join our team. As a key member of our underwriting team, you'll be responsible for evaluating and analysing insurance applications for SMEs, ensuring that they meet our risk appetite and maintain profitability.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Evaluate and analyse insurance applications from SMEs to determine the risk level and appropriate premium pricing, considering factors such as financial statements, industry classifications, loss history, and other relevant data.
  2. Underwrite new and renewal SME commercial insurance policies in line with company guidelines, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
  3. Approve or decline insurance applications based on risk assessment, underwriting guidelines, and company policy.
  4. Monitor and manage the performance of the SME insurance portfolio to ensure profitability and growth, adjusting underwriting strategies based on market trends, loss ratios, and emerging risks.
  5. Collaborate with the product team to create or modify insurance products tailored to the SME market.
  6. Work closely with other underwriters, claims adjusters, and the sales team to ensure a seamless underwriting process and to share knowledge and best practices.
About You
  1. 3-5 years experience in commercial underwriting, preferably within the UK SME market, with a strong understanding of various lines of business, including commercial combined, property & liability.
  2. Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to assess risk and make informed decisions, and proficiency in underwriting software and tools.
  3. High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in documentation and data analysis.
