About the Role

The City of Edinburgh Council is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Pupil Support Officer to join our team at Trinity Academy. As a Pupil Support Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting young people with complex needs, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), intellectual disabilities, and learning profiles that require significant levels of support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high-quality experiences for young people in partnership with the Positive Pathways Class (PPC) team, led by the Curriculum Leader.
  • Work independently and lead the learning experience of small pupil groups of up to 4 pupils, both within and beyond the school grounds.
  • Support young people to develop effective communication and regulation strategies as part of their core education.
  • Engage with young people and families as part of the child planning process, contributing to professional conversations with colleagues on a regular basis.
  • Support PPC pupils to engage with the wider life of the school, where practicable.
  • Work as part of a cohesive team, alongside staff supporting young people associated with the PPC.
  • Provide guidance or direction to class Pupil Support Assistants who work with PPC pupils, as required.
  • Support pupils outwith the PPC, as needed.

Requirements

  • Ability to work with young people with complex needs, including those with ASD, intellectual disabilities, and learning profiles that require significant levels of support.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with young people, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to plan and deliver high-quality experiences that meet the needs of young people with complex needs.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to the values of Respect, Integrity, and Flexibility, as outlined in the City of Edinburgh Council's Behaviours framework.
