Job Title: Communications Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled Communications Manager to join our Media and Communications Department at Sussex Police. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing effective communications strategies to engage with the public, stakeholders, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver integrated communications plans to promote the work of Sussex Police and enhance its reputation.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and partnerships to build trust and confidence in policing in Sussex.
  • Work closely with our Media, Social and Digital and Creative Services teams to protect and enhance the reputation of Sussex Police.
  • Raise standards of communication and engagement across the force, ensuring quality and consistency.
  • Lead and manage force-wide projects and themes, generating creative solutions to initiate and enhance communications with the public.
  • Manage internal and media enquiries, delivering appeals via news media and digital channels during weekend shifts.
  • Flex to support internal and external communications needs of Sussex Police in the event of a major/critical incident.
  • Ensure consistent demonstration of the Code of Ethics through all communications activity.
Requirements:
  • Degree in a communications discipline or recent experience in communications, marketing, or media.
  • Experience working in a communications team and delivering integrated public information or behavioural communications campaigns across multiple channels.
  • Evidence of stakeholder management, mapping, segmentation, and targeting.
  • Experience of designing and running internal and community engagement activities.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, with experience of liaising and advising people at a senior level and from a range of backgrounds.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt content for different audiences and channels.
  • Understanding and experience of using social media channels in a work environment to build awareness, understanding, and engagement.
  • Ability to balance and manage conflict between short and long-term priorities and reactive/proactive work under pressure.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
