Main Responsibilities and Expectations

The Academic Teaching Assistant will provide support to the teaching, assessment, and student support functions within the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Subject Group in the Department of Engineering at the University of Hertfordshire. This will involve coordinating and leading practical sessions, assisting with the coordination and preparation of module teaching and learning activities, and contributing to personal tutorial and study support programs.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and correct completion of program-related teaching and learning administration in full compliance with legal, professional, and University requirements. They will also assist with the assessment of students, under the supervision of academic staff, as required.

Key Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, the candidate will need to have experience of supporting learning and teaching or relevant activities in UK Higher Education settings. They will also require an appropriate teaching ability and experience of digital and educational resources. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to support students in at least two of the following areas:

  • Matlab
  • VHDL
  • Vivado
  • MultiSim
  • Design and Manufacturing of Analogue and/or Digital Electronic Circuits
  • Electronic Circuits Design, Manufacture, and Testing of PCBs

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate efficiently in a variety of formats to different audiences are essential for this role. A methodical approach, attention to detail, and the ability to work accurately under pressure to tight deadlines are also required.

Education and Qualifications

The successful candidate will be educated to a minimum of a first degree (or equivalent qualification) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering or a cognate subject relevant to the discipline.
