About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team at a specialist school in Stevenage. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support students with SEN on a one-to-one basis or in small groups
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and informative lessons
  • Support students with challenging behavior
  • Prepare resources and equipment for lessons
  • Support students with additional care needs, such as feeding and toileting
  • Ensure students are safeguarded and supported
Requirements
  • Enhanced child DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one
  • Experience working with children or young people with additional care needs
  • 2 recent professional references
  • Experience with challenging behavior
  • A calm and caring personality
  • A strong and resilient personality, committed to student development
  • Excellent reading, writing, numeracy, and communication skills
  • Team Teach training or willingness to attend training

About the School

The school is a specialist institution that provides education to students of all ages (3-19) with physical disabilities, illnesses, and related learning and communication challenges. The school's large, purpose-built structure allows wheelchair users full access, with state-of-the-art equipment, first-rate restroom facilities, a hydrotherapy pool, and well-equipped classrooms.

All pupils who attend the school will have an Educational Health Care plan, many of whom have complex needs in addition to autism, many have severe learning difficulties (SLD). Pupils may also have social, emotional, and mental health difficulties, sensory/physical needs, or specific learning difficulties.
