Business Development Manager - NIHR Exeter BRC Industry Engagement

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Business Development Manager to join our team at the University of Exeter. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and managing partnerships with industry, organizations, and government partners to drive income generation and spinout opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify and develop opportunities for income generation from internal and external sources, limiting exposure to risk and maximizing benefits to the University.
  • Develop detailed market research and insights using specialized databases, analysis of market trends, government strategy, and networking with external advisors, specialists, consultants, potential customers, and competitors.
  • Develop sustainable partnerships with new and established partners, with a view to these partners collaborating and/or funding projects with academics across the five current thematic areas: Clinical mycology, Diabetes, Genetics and genomics, Neurodegeneration, and Rehabilitation.
  • Provide the Exeter Innovation interface with the NIHR Exeter BRC, working closely with thematic leads to develop and deliver the BEI strategy and income targets embedded within the NIHR Exeter BRC strategic plan.
  • Advise and lead on the development of applications for economic development and knowledge exchange research, working with colleagues in Exeter Innovation and other Professional Services.
  • Develop complex costings (and pricing where appropriate) of projects ranging from £10k - £3m using the systems and resources available in the Division.
  • Work with NIHR BRC academics to explore, identify, and support commercialization opportunities, such as IP, licensing, and spinouts.
