About the Role

UKAS is seeking a skilled Technical Assessor to join our team in the Immunology sector. As a Technical Assessor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the conformity and compliance of medical laboratories across the UK with the ISO 15189:2022 standard.


This is an independent contract position specifically designed for Consultant Immunologists. As a Technical Assessor, you will be part of a team that assesses laboratories or Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) services to confirm their adherence to the standard.


Your key responsibilities will include witnessing tests in the laboratory, reviewing examination records and reports, and commenting on competency and compliance with laboratory procedures. Additionally, you will review laboratory documentation and records to confirm the effective implementation of the system, including competency records, EQA/IQC processes, and validation/verification records.


Key Requirements


  • Experience in providing specialist clinical care for patients with primary and secondary immunodeficiency, autoimmune, and allergic conditions
  • Significant experience in a practical clinical laboratory and/or delivery of a clinical reporting service
  • Registration with a relevant professional body is desirable
  • Demonstrable leadership skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communicating effectively with laboratory staff, management, and customers at all levels


Desirable Skills


  • A working knowledge of the international standard ISO 15189 (2012 or 2022 version), although full training will be provided
  • Some experience in internal or external auditing
