The Greenwich PCN Alliance is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team as a Medicines Optimisation Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and innovative environment, contributing to the successful clinical management of patients and the safe, accurate, and timely supply of prescribed medication.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring a centralised, safe, and effective medicines optimisation process across PCN practices. This will involve:
1. Repeat Prescribing and Repeat Dispensing Processes- Implementing the PCN repeat prescription process, including repeat intervals for long-term conditions and chronic diseases, and read codes for AMBER 3 and hospital-only drugs.
- Agreeing a process for appliance requests, including stoma, continence, dressings, and ACBS products.
- Supporting staff training and working with community pharmacy as an electronic repeat dispensing (eRD) champion.
- Running searches and acting on MHRA CAS alerts.
- Supporting patient queries related to medicines.
- Referencing complex medicines queries to pharmacists, nurses, or GPs.
- Identifying patients suitable for virtual clinics to support QIPP implementation.
- Identifying patients who have not been issued anticoagulant, lithium, steroid, or antiplatelet cards and ensuring read codes are entered into patient notes.
- Identifying patients and risk stratifying using UCLP search templates on EMIS.
- Contacting patients for up-to-date home blood pressure readings if available.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
- Competence in the use of Office and Outlook.
- Effective time management and planning skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure.
- Understanding of the audit process and clinical risk management.
The successful candidate will have:
- Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician.
- BTEC/NVQ3 Pharmacy Services (or equivalent).
- Experience working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician.
- Desirable experience of working in primary care and/or a GP practice.
