Nurse Specialist

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom NHS Full time

This is an exciting opportunity to work within the outpatient setting on Medical Day Unit (MDU) currently based at the hospital.

MDU is an outpatient department which deals with various intravenous infusions, diagnostic endocrine tests, ascetic drains and blood transfusions.

We are a friendly team and would look for someone to fit in and enjoy the diversity of the department. Ideally we would like someone who can cannulate, but this is not essential as training and support will be given. It may be beneficial to visit the unit to gain a better understanding of our service.

It is essential to have a relevant NMC registration.

We use a variety of different drugs and are always keen to expand the services we can offer to both patients and specialities.

Shadowing opportunities with Specialist Nursing teams can be arranged, along with regular in-house training on new and changing treatments. We work closely with the drug brand reps that visit the unit and inform us of changes and also offer support.

We also have a designated co-ordinator per shift that will support and guide the staff on the unit each day.

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for a Registered Nurse with Nursing and Midwifery Council UK registration (NMC).

Person Specification
  • Registered Nurse with active NMC registration
  • Evidence of relevant continued professional development

  • Acts as a role model and is able to lead by example to ensure the Trust's values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice
  • Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective service and care delivery
  • Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety
