Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Biomedical Scientist to join our team at Viapath. As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of our Histopathology department, working closely with our team of Medical Laboratory Assistants, Biomedical Scientists, and Trainee Biomedical Scientists.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking a range of complex histological and pathological testing, including immunohistochemistry, renal histopathology, cryotomy, and molecular pathology techniques. You will also be expected to participate in and advise on the routine Advanced Diagnostics workload, which includes a large range of complex histological and pathological testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake immunohistochemistry, renal histopathology, cryotomy, and molecular pathology techniques
  • Participate in and advise on the routine Advanced Diagnostics workload
  • Work closely with a team of Medical Laboratory Assistants, Biomedical Scientists, and Trainee Biomedical Scientists
  • Perform and assist with various validations and verifications of procedures, techniques, and equipment
  • Provide an expert level of theoretical and practical knowledge to the Advanced Diagnostics Service
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science or equivalent first degree acceptable to the Health Professions Council. You will also need to have HCPC Registration (Histopathology Specialisation) and participation in continuing professional development. Experience and competency in routine histopathology laboratory techniques, familiar with Quality and Health and Safety, and competent in immunohistochemistry are also essential.
