Base Materials is a leading expert in high-performance syntactic materials for various industries, including automotive, aerospace, foundry, manufacturing, marine, motorsport, rail, and subsea.

Reporting into the Production Team Leaders, the Maintenance Engineer will ensure the smooth operation of machinery and equipment, performing general maintenance tasks related to site services. The primary goal of this role is to minimize downtime through Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), improve production facilities, reduce the costs of breakdowns, resources, and repairs, and increase overall reliability and safety of the plant, personnel, and production processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carrying out routine scheduled maintenance work and responding to equipment faults.
  • Breakdowns: Utilizing diagnostic and fault-finding methods to establish root cause and repair plant and equipment, ensuring minimal downtime. Contributing to improving planned preventative maintenance.
  • Providing training to operators to enable them to perform routine basic maintenance activities, such as cleaning valves.
  • Participating in training programs to stay updated with new technologies and best practices in maintenance engineering.
  • Collaborating with other departments to address maintenance issues and improve overall efficiencies.
  • Keeping accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment performance.
  • Managing external contractors while on-site.
  • Assisting with new plant builds and installations across sites.
Requirements
  • A mechanical engineering apprenticeship or qualification.
  • Industrial or manufacturing background.
  • Electrical and mechanical training/experience within an industrial setting.
Desirable Qualifications
  • An electrical engineering qualification.
  • Fabrication – manual machining/fitting/welding.
  • Planned Preventative Maintenance.
  • PLC Fault Finding / 3Phase.
Key Personal Attributes
  • Capacity to understand a range of engineering functions and procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings (desirable).
  • £40k per annum + shift premium (£10 per day), overtime rates apply weekdays 1 1⁄3, Saturday 1 1⁄2, and Sunday double time.
  • 33 days annual leave.
  • Contributory pension scheme.
