We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Operator to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a vital member of our highway maintenance crew, you will be responsible for operating power tools and heavy equipment to ensure the safe and efficient maintenance of our roadways.



Key Responsibilities:


  • Operate power tools and heavy equipment, including chain saws, trimming and chipping machines, dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, motor graders, and tractors with attachments.
  • Perform manual labor tasks, including clearing drainage, cutting brush, pot-hole patching, and fulfilling tasks required to complete road maintenance projects.
  • Respond to emergency roadway and severe weather events to prepare and operate equipment for snow and ice removal and other types of hazardous road conditions.
  • Attend work zone training and perform traffic control duties.
  • Demonstrate proper work site protection techniques, including identifying workplace safety hazards, suggesting improvements, wearing personal protective equipment, and maintaining current knowledge of safety rules and regulations.


Requirements:


  • Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.
  • Ability to operate and maintain equipment comparable to that used in highway maintenance/construction activities.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
  • Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and obtain a CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment.
