About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Train Driver to join our team at GB Railfreight. As a Train Driver, you will be responsible for operating locomotives safely and efficiently, ensuring the smooth transportation of goods and passengers across our network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate locomotives, both light engines and freight trains, with a strong focus on safety and adherence to regulations.
  • Comply with all rules and instructions, undergoing regular proficiency assessments to maintain competence.
  • Complete route and traction training, ensuring you are up-to-date with the latest procedures and protocols.
  • Identify and report faults, following established procedures to minimize downtime and ensure the safe operation of our trains.
  • Represent GB Railfreight to our customers, maintaining a professional image and providing excellent customer service.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, managers, and customers, ensuring seamless coordination and collaboration.
  • Ensure the safety of yourself and others, remaining vigilant and focused at all times.

Requirements

  • European Train Driving License holder.
  • Clean safety record.
  • Freight Train Driver Competence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of rail industry rules and regulations.
  • A full, manual UK drivers license.
  • Ability to live within a 45-minute commute of our depot.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with iPAD and digital technologies.
  • Mentor experience.
  • Freight Train experience, especially class 66 locomotive competence.
  • Varied route knowledge.
  • Rail Operator competence.

  • Ability to remain calm in a pressured environment, systematically appraising the situation and taking appropriate action.
  • Flexible approach to work, willingness to go above and beyond for the fulfilment of duties.
  • Ability to work both alone and as part of a team.
  • No preference for avoiding a monotonous environment.
