Job Title: Practice Nurse

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage chronic conditions such as asthma, COPD, and diabetes, providing comprehensive care and management to patients.
  • Participate in baby clinics, administering vaccinations and providing parental guidance and support.
  • Deliver advanced wound care, including wound management and treatment.
  • Conduct cervical cytology smear tests, ensuring accurate documentation and patient care.
  • Perform venepuncture procedures, facilitating diagnostic testing and patient care.
  • Provide holistic approach to wound management, including wound care 'Tier 2' lower limb, ulcer care, and Doppler.
  • Conduct electrocardiograms (ECGs) to support the diagnosis and monitoring of cardiac conditions.
  • Provide advice and administer contraception options, ensuring patient education and adherence to clinical guidelines.
  • Remove sutures safely and efficiently, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and patient comfort.
  • Maintain awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including referral systems.
  • Recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse, ensuring appropriate actions are taken to safeguard vulnerable patients.
  • Manage sharps and waste disposal, ensuring a clean and safe environment for both staff and patients.
  • Follow infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections and maintain a safe healthcare environment.
  • Recognise and manage anaphylaxis in accordance with current UK guidelines, providing prompt and effective treatment during emergencies.
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as required, ensuring timely intervention in life-threatening situations.
  • Follow established procedures for handling and cleaning body fluid spills, maintaining a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Obtain and document informed consent in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Monitor and manage the maintenance of stock and equipment, including refrigeration and emergency equipment.
  • Ensure the effective management of vaccine storage, including maintaining the cold chain and proper stock rotation.
  • Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality regarding all patient and practice information.
  • Ensure all consultations are documented in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) guidelines, maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of national and local health guidelines, applying these standards to patient care to ensure high-quality and compliant practice.
Requirements:
  • Current NMC registration.
  • Appropriate qualifications and competencies to treat chronic illness and deliver clinical procedures.
  • Evidence of recent CPD.
  • Experience of working in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and The Scope of Professional Practice.
  • Experience of dealing with patients.
  • Experience of long-term condition management, diabetes, COPD, and asthma.
  • Baby clinic experience.
Desirable:
  • Experience of working as a Practice Nurse in a primary care setting.
  • Mentorship and supervision of staff.
  • Practice Nurse qualification.
  • Cytology screening.
  • Qualified in diabetes management.
  • Wound management.
  • Baby clinic.
  • Competence to undertake asthma, COPD, and reviews, holding relevant certificates.
