We are seeking a highly skilled Design Manager to lead our Rail projects within the Electrification & Plant portfolio. This is a hybrid role based from our office, home, and occasional site visits.

We are a leading civil engineering organisation delivering safe, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions across the UK.

As Design Manager, you will be responsible for the successful development of a sub-package of pre-construction works for both Network Rail and Octavius Infrastructure. You will develop schemes through design and other pre-construction activities, to hand over to our Delivery teams.

This entails working closely with customers, stakeholders, design partners, suppliers, and delivery teams to create solutions that delight our customers, are of a high quality, and within the financial targets set.

You will lead by example by engendering a collaborative culture throughout the project team, including suppliers and customers, ensuring that everyone works towards our common vision of a vibrant delivery mechanism that delivers on promises, with safety at its core.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interfacing with Design Contractors and the Client, understanding Engineering Remits, developing and driving a design Programme.
  • Lead on increasing the use of BIM, technology, and IT to improve efficiency.
  • Embrace Lean personally and within your team as a means of driving out waste and seeking improvements in all activities.
  • Identifying new thinking and innovation through collaboration on project delivery and implementing it successfully.
  • Understanding and implementing actions from our 'lessons learnt' meetings.

Requirements:

  • An Engineering Background with Design Management Experience. Pricing & Estimating knowledge a Bonus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good level of NEC3 knowledge, and ability to administer contracts.
  • Design Management skills.
  • Exceptional people management - with the ability to influence and mentor to motivate employees to achieve exacting standards of compliance.
  • Highly organised, with excellent planning and time management skills.
  • Highly motivated, results-oriented with a positive outlook.
  • Technically savvy, with good working knowledge of Microsoft Project.
  • Managing projects or Programmes and working with other departments to achieve deliverables.
  • Experience and knowledge of the construction industry – awareness of current techniques.
  • Has managed design programmes and been responsible for their delivery, in terms of quality, design assurance, commercial performance, and meeting programme constraints.
  • Detailed understanding of safety leadership from a policy and behavioural perspective.
  • You will be Degree qualified in a Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related course (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Has achieved or has aspiration of Professional membership with a recognised and relevant Professional body, i.e. Institution of Electrical Engineers and has a clear plan to achieve such status.
