Job Title: Support Assistant - Special Needs

Job Summary: Empowering Learning is seeking a Support Assistant to work with students with special needs in a SEMH school setting. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children, particularly those with autism, and be able to provide support with daily tasks and academic development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing educational programs and activities for students.
  • Provide support to students with special needs, including those with autism.
  • Assist in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Help students with daily tasks, such as personal care and hygiene.
  • Support students in their academic and social development.
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the lead teacher.
  • Assist with classroom management and behaviour management strategies.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs and challenging behaviours.
  • Knowledge of special education practices and strategies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards working with children.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and handle challenging behaviours.
