About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Railway Operations Specialist to join our team at Colas Rail UK. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for preparing freight trains for service, facilitating movements to/from the operational railway, and controlling freight train movements in a defined area of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure freight trains and associated wagons are correctly prepared for service, adhering to industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct thorough examinations of rolling stock to ensure compliance with railway industry standards.
  • Assist train drivers with brake continuity testing and complete train documentation as required.
  • Carry out shunting and train preparation duties, including coupling/uncoupling of wagons and locomotives.
  • Operate ground frames and hand points as required to facilitate train movements.
  • Undertake technical examinations of rolling stock and assist maintenance/servicing staff as required.
  • Work various shift patterns, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays, and be prepared to lodge away from home when required.
  • Ensure the highest level of professionalism when interacting with colleagues, clients, and members of the public.
  • Be proactive and vigilant in maintaining a safe working environment.
Requirements
  • Experienced train preparer with a strong understanding of industry standards and regulations.
  • Personal Track Safety certification.
  • Rules and Regulations competence.
  • Freight Train Operations, Loading, and Rolling Stock Examination knowledge.
