Head of Academics Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and forward-thinking Head of Academics to lead our Philosophy, Religion, and Ethics department in Enfield, North London.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Curriculum Development: Design and implement a comprehensive Philosophy, Religion, and Ethics curriculum that engages students with thought-provoking content and encourages critical thinking.
  2. Teaching and Learning: Provide leadership in delivering high-quality, innovative teaching strategies that make philosophical, religious, and ethical studies accessible and engaging for all students.
  3. Student Support: Guide and mentor students in their academic and personal growth, fostering a deep understanding of diverse perspectives and ethical reasoning.
  4. Department Management: Lead and support a team of educators within the Philosophy, Religion, and Ethics department, ensuring the delivery of a coherent and well-structured educational experience.
  5. Professional Development: Stay abreast of current developments in Philosophy, Religion, and Ethics, integrating new ideas and methodologies into the department's teaching practices.
Requirements:
  1. Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, Religious Studies, or a related field, with a PGCE or QTS for secondary education.
  2. Experience: Demonstrable experience teaching Philosophy, Religion, and Ethics at the secondary level, with a track record of leadership or management within an educational setting.
  3. Knowledge: Strong understanding of the national curriculum for Philosophy, Religion, and Ethics, and effective assessment methods.
  4. Safeguarding: A deep understanding of safeguarding and child protection, with an enhanced DBS on the update service.
