Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and skilled nursing professional to join our team as a Deputy Divisional Director of Nursing for North Bristol NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop our colorectal cancer services, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care.

Main Duties
  • Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients and families
  • Act as a specialist practitioner, planning and implementing programmes of care in collaboration with senior colleagues
  • Develop and share expertise within the multidisciplinary team
  • Work closely with community and network staff to ensure seamless service delivery
  • Present in multidisciplinary team meetings and lead discussions on specialist areas
  • Transcribe radiology requests and deploy high-level skills in communication and patient advocacy
  • Develop and utilize skills to embed patient and public involvement in specialist nursing practice
  • Ensure patients and families are aware of all treatment options, including clinical trials
  • Nurture and maintain links with other healthcare agencies and organizations
  • Adhere to and promote infection control guidelines and procedures
  • Act as a positive role model for nurses in the hospital
  • Deliver complex sensitive condition-related information to patients and relatives
  • Provide specialist support and advice in clinical areas, wards, and outpatients
  • Analyse and respond to challenging and complex clinical situations
  • Act as a change agent, motivating and reassuring staff through negotiation and training
Education
  • Participate in planning and delivery of formal and informal education programmes for patients, carers, and staff
  • Ensure professional knowledge and practice are regularly updated
  • Take personal responsibility for lifelong learning and personal development through clinical supervision and appraisal
Research and Audit
  • Collate and record quantitative and qualitative data to provide evidence of productivity, outcomes, and quality
  • Lead on and participate in clinical audit and research
  • Promote a culture of evidence-based practice
  • Be involved with health promotion
Management
  • Plan provision of day-to-day organizational tasks
  • Manage a complex caseload based on flexible principles, priorities, and care needs of patients
  • Participate in policy and service development and development of protocols for specialist areas of work
  • Participate in providing an initial response to complaints and queries
  • Maintain accurate and concise records for evaluation and development of the service
  • Be responsible for effective, efficient, and safe use, maintenance, and storage of resources and equipment
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date patient records
Person Specification
  • Registered General Nurse – Level One and current NMC registration
  • Evidence of study at Degree level in a related health topic or willingness to undertake
  • Evidence of formal ongoing professional development
  • Recognised teaching qualification
  • Significant post-registration experience in colorectal surgery
  • Evidence of recent teaching experience
  • Experience of involvement in change and development within a multidisciplinary team context
  • Knowledge of the care and management of patients with colorectal cancers
  • Knowledge of national and local developments in relation to the living with and beyond cancer programme
  • Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of national and local cancer issues and developments
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with patients, relatives, and colleagues
  • Good assessment skills
  • Proven presentation and teaching skills
  • Self-motivated and ability to work without direct supervision
  • Ability to cope with emotional issues presented in the course of work and to support others
