About the Role

We are seeking two enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrists to join our Liaison Psychiatry team at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing clinical leadership and consultant input into the Adult Liaison Psychiatry team. Our team works in a large acute Trust with several tertiary services, providing holistic care for patients with mental health needs who are admitted to the hospital.

The post-holder will be based at Southampton General Hospital, University Southampton Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, and will be appointed by Southern Health Foundation Trust, with an honorary contract with University Hospitals Southampton NHS Trust. This is a unique opportunity to develop a special interest in an area of the medical Trust, such as surgery, medicine, or obstetrics.

The general adult liaison psychiatry team has an established 24/7 practitioner cover, with a well-staffed admin team including a dedicated medical secretary. We work closely with our acute colleagues to diagnose and manage patients with a wide range of mental health problems who have physical morbidities, and support teams to manage patients with multiple, long-term chronic health conditions.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Providing clinical leadership and consultant input into the Adult Liaison Psychiatry team
  • Developing a special interest in an area of the medical Trust
  • Working closely with acute colleagues to provide holistic care for patients with mental health needs
  • Supporting teams to manage patients with multiple, long-term chronic health conditions
