Agricultural Operations Manager

We are seeking a skilled Agricultural Operations Manager to support our grower relations team, deliver crop monitoring and data management requirements for our processing business. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the sustainability agenda across the Greens of Soham businesses, collaborating with farm managers and the wider group to achieve set objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain accurate crop inventories to ensure timely crop availability.
- Provide support on variety choice, irrigation scheduling, and yield enhancement, leveraging expertise in potato growing.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, updating documentation annually in collaboration with third-party consultants, and delivering reports to growers.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute the variety and farmer trials program.
- Coordinate trial plot arrangements and locations, ensuring effective communication with growers.
- Produce comprehensive annual reports on variety performance for breeders and growers, including quarterly updates.
- Lead the planning and execution of first-year commercial trials and the introduction of new varieties.
Sustainability Initiatives
- Collaborate with the Managing Director and the wider group to drive sustainable farming practices.
- Coordinate and implement sustainable farming initiatives across the Greens of Soham businesses.
- Engage with customers to understand their requirements and preferences.
- Monitor and support third-party growers in adopting regenerative agriculture practices.
Operations and Logistics
- Ensure the Greens of Soham brand is consistently associated with professionalism, integrity, and excellence.
- Coordinate field yield assessments, fresh crop laboratory sampling, and digger diary management, liaising with the relevant teams.
- Support the scheduling of fresh crops into the four-week outlook, ensuring timely delivery.
Team Collaboration and Development
- Foster strong relationships with growers, providing technical support and guidance.
- Work closely with the management team to ensure up-to-date and accurate information is available for informed decision-making.
- Manage the Technical Assistant, setting objectives and delivering feedback to drive performance improvement.
Projects and Development
- Primary point of contact for I-crop initiatives.
- Prepared to deliver grant-funded projects when funding becomes available, leveraging the company's resources and expertise.
Requirements and Benefits
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in agriculture, with expertise in potato growing and data analysis. A passion for regenerative farming and sustainability is essential. Strong IT skills and basic Excel skills are required, with BASIS and FACTS certification desirable but not essential. A full UK driving license is mandatory for this role.
Working hours are Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work required during peak seasons.
