Job Description

As a key member of the Risk Management Department at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation - SMBC Group, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the annual update of the Bank's Recovery Planning, Resolvability, and Solvent Wind Down Plan (SWDP) analysis. This role will also involve maintaining and regularly updating the Bank's RRP and SWDP processes, performing RRP-related assessments, and producing and presenting RRP-related items for approval at the Enterprise Risk Management Committee (ERMC).

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the annual update of the SMBC-BI Recovery Planning, Resolvability, and Solvent Wind Down Plan (SWDP) analysis.
  • Maintain and regularly update the Bank's RRP and SWDP processes.
  • Perform RRP-related assessments, including recovery scenario impacts, recovery options, and process enhancements.
  • Produce and present RRP-related items for approval at ERMC, including regular progress updates.
  • Ensure consistency of processes through dialogue with the EMEA Head of RRP, exchanging ideas for scenarios, recovery options, and process enhancements.
  • Ensure process and documentation in relation to key regulatory-driven processes are regularly reviewed and aligned with industry best practices.
  • Present relevant risk-related items, including RRP-related Risk Appetite Measures, for review, challenge, and formal approval.
  • Develop and update SMBC BI's strategic planning and risk management processes, focusing on aspects of RRP regulatory change.
  • Act as RMD representative in RRP-related working groups to address UK regulatory changes and impact.
  • Engage with external parties to maintain awareness of current industry and regulatory developments.
  • Undertake research and investigations on key industry developments.
  • Integrate necessary regulatory processes into the overall business framework of the Bank.
  • Participate in risk management training activities, preparing and delivering training to relevant personnel.
  • Take initiative on various ad-hoc projects arising from day-to-day business or as instructed by management.
  • Provide risk services to regional entities in accordance with intragroup SLA/intragroup arrangements, where applicable.
  • Support the development of the annual ICAAP update, including key analysis for Reverse Stress Testing.
Requirements
  • Detailed knowledge of RRP regulations and industry practices (PRA, EBA, Basel) relating to key risk management processes.
  • Excellent Office 365 skills, with coding skills an advantage.
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory expectations for RRP, ICAAP.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong numerical skills and ability to interpret and communicate effectively.
  • Experience of senior-level stakeholder engagement desirable.
  • Project management skills desirable.
  • Degree-educated, particularly in maths, economics, accounting, or social sciences an advantage.
