The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting students' social, emotional, and mental well-being, working closely with both the pastoral team and teaching staff to promote a positive school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pastoral Support: Work one-on-one or in small groups with students who may be experiencing social or emotional difficulties, helping them develop resilience, improve their confidence, and cope with challenges both inside and outside of school.
- Behavioural Mentoring: Support students who display challenging behaviour, helping them understand the consequences of their actions and guiding them towards positive behaviour strategies.
- Emotional Well-being: Provide emotional support to students, offering a safe space for them to discuss their concerns, and directing them to additional services if needed.
- Engagement and Motivation: Encourage students to stay engaged in their education by promoting positive attitudes, helping them to set personal goals, and motivating them to achieve their potential.
- Collaboration with Staff: Work closely with teaching staff, the school's pastoral team, and parents/carers to develop tailored support plans for students, ensuring a holistic approach to each young person's development.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Keep detailed records of student progress, noting behavioural improvements or any concerns, and report these to relevant staff members to ensure timely interventions.
- Safeguarding: Ensure that all safeguarding procedures are followed, maintaining the safety and well-being of all students in your care.
- Extra-curricular Support: Assist with the delivery of after-school activities or additional support sessions aimed at building student confidence and social skills.
Requirements:
- Experience in Youth Work or Mentoring: Previous experience in a youth worker role, or similar capacity, working with young people facing emotional, social, or behavioural challenges.
- Strong Communication Skills: The ability to build rapport with young people, listen effectively, and communicate clearly with both students and staff.
- Empathy and Patience: A compassionate and non-judgmental approach, with a deep understanding of the challenges young people may face, particularly in relation to mental health, social issues, and behaviour.
- Proactive and Organised: The ability to manage a varied workload, take initiative, and respond to students' needs in a timely and effective manner.
- Team Player: The ability to work collaboratively with other staff members, including teachers, pastoral leads, and external agencies, to ensure a consistent approach to student support.
- Commitment to Safeguarding: A strong understanding of safeguarding policies and practices, with a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
