Job Overview

Applications are invited for a 12-month locum consultant psychiatrist position in Forensic Psychiatry to join Lea ward, an 18-bedded medium secure male rehabilitation ward. This is a maternity cover with a possibility of extension.

The ideal candidate will be registered with a license to practice with the GMC and have approved clinician status with experience in Forensic Psychiatry. A CCT in Forensic Psychiatry is desirable.

Main Duties

The post holder will provide high-quality care in accordance with national policy (CPA, NICE guidelines) and local policy (Clinical Model, Admissions & Transfers Policy). They will work closely with local psychiatric services and other agencies to facilitate the transfer or discharge of suitable patients.

The post holder will participate in follow-up with patients sent on trial Lea or conditionally or absolutely discharged from the hospital.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Use of relevant tools, e.g. HCR20, HONOS

Eligibility

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment
  • GMC Specialist Register
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
  • Approved under S12

  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Participated in continuous professional development
  • Able to use and appraise clinical evidence
  • Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes
