Job Summary

We are seeking an Academic Support Specialist to join our dynamic team at a SEMH Specialist school. As a key member of our staff, you will provide crucial support to students and contribute to their academic and personal growth.

About the Role

The successful candidate will work closely with the Year Progress Leads to ensure the academic, pastoral, and welfare needs of students are met. This involves identifying areas where students require additional support and delivering targeted interventions to help them overcome barriers to learning. You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records, liaising with parents, and collaborating with colleagues to promote positive behavior and attendance.

Main Responsibilities
  • Support the Year Progress Leads in overseeing the academic, pastoral, and welfare of all students.
  • Work with the SENCo, Pupil Premium Lead, Behaviour Support, and SLT to identify student needs and deliver targeted interventions.
  • Support positive behavior through various strategies, including rewards and consequences.
  • Liaise with parents, maintain accurate records, and respond to parental enquiries as needed.
  • Maintain excellent attendance across the year group by working with tutors, the Attendance Officer, and Year Progress Leads.
  • Ensure students are properly safeguarded at all times.

Safeguarding and Security

The successful candidate must have a thorough understanding of child protection policies and procedures, ensuring they are compliant with academy guidelines. They will also attend mandatory training and refreshers to maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding requirements.

Educational Requirements and Skills

Candidates should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. A background in education or a related field is preferred, with experience in supporting students with SEMH needs being highly desirable. The successful candidate will also have the ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities, demonstrating flexibility and resilience in a fast-paced environment.

Salary and Benefits
