Leading Laboratory Manager - Excellent Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Manager to join our team in Wolverhampton. As a key member of the laboratory management team, you will be responsible for supporting the overall operation of the laboratory and ensuring it operates to the required ISO 17025 standard.
This is a full-time permanent role, working 37.5 hours per week - Monday to Friday 10:00 - 18:00. The salary for this position is approximately £40,000 - £50,000 per annum, depending on experience.
- You will be responsible for owning the day-to-day management of the main production laboratory, supporting the department manager (production and technical) to deliver service levels to expected standards.
- You will act as deputy to the Department Manager (Production & Technical) in respective areas.
- You will prioritise the Health and Safety of the team and ensure all processes and risk assessments are reviewed to scheduled timelines and after any incident.
- You will support and develop a zero-accident culture though robust hazard reporting, improvements and audits.
- You will develop a culture of continuous improvement that drives process efficiencies and operational excellence.
- You will own the 5S process in the laboratory utilising the continuous improvement function to support and train the team to drive improvements.
- You will support, coach and mentor the team leaders under your remit to ensure they can deliver the required level of service, develop and support their teams and instil the required standards within all roles.
- You will have knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management System in order to ensure compliance at all times with the policies, procedures and associated documents which are referred to in the system.
- You will ensure that all work carried out complies with documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work, that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded, that samples are handled correctly, that worksheets are kept in an orderly manner.
- You will ensure that staff are suitably trained and all training documents are suitably maintained including ongoing competency.
- You will ensure all equipment is maintained and serviced to the correct standard ensuring it is all safe to operate and is fully calibrated.
- You will ensure complaints and NCWs are completed to a high standard and in a timely manner.
- You will work closely with the local quality team to ensure full compliance of all parts of ISO 17025 alongside customer specific requirements.
- You will ensure in conjunction with the quality team, that EQA, IQC and DPC systems are maintained, and non-conformances are investigated.
- You will represent the laboratory in external audits (regulatory/client audits etc.).
- You will drive TAT to the highest possible level whilst maintaining a tight control on cost and resource levels.
- You will manage waste through the laboratory ensuring this is minimised.
- You will manage the team, including recruitment, training and development, mentoring, motivation and disciplinary matters.
- You will work closely with the Analytical Services/Customer Service team to ensure a high-level of customer service.
- You will support customer requirements and be a key-link to ensure customer requirements are translated within the laboratory.
- As required complete internal audits in-line with the audit schedule for the site.
Requirements
- Understanding of ISO 17025, UKAS, key customer requirements, audit procedures, methods etc.
- Proven experience in working to and exceeding targets.
- Experience of working with a broad range of internal and external customers.
- Competence in IT, including LIMS, spreadsheets and databases.
- Experience working in a UKAS accredited laboratory
- Able to present complex information face to face.
- Strong knowledge of LIMS and instrument system integration to drive laboratory efficiencies.
- Strong people management skills.
- Strong management skills of for performance/absence management.
- Full commitment to meeting customers expectation.
