Job Title: Principal Arboricultural Consultant

Join our team of experts at Place Services, a multi-disciplinary consultancy within Essex County Council, providing environmental and planning services to the Council, local authorities, and other public bodies.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Arboricultural Consultant to lead the provision of arboricultural services to clients across the UK. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality services, including specialist planning advice, highway tree management, and complex arboricultural assessments and surveys.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver commercial and operational excellence in arboricultural services, including a demanding caseload of enquiries and managing contractors.
  • Collect, analyse, and present complex data, evidence, and advice to recognised standards.
  • Lead the development and review of complex plans, policies, and guidance.
  • Develop and manage high-value projects and contracts against budget, specification, and indicators.
  • Build a professional, client-focused culture and high-level client relationships.
  • Lead the development and delivery of promotional and learning material, training activities, and events.
  • Identify and implement improvements to the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery.
Requirements
  • Educated to RQF level 6 (Bachelor's degree) with evidence of substantial post-qualification experience.
  • Qualified Professional Tree Inspector with strong evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Authoritative technical and subject matter expert with comprehensive knowledge and experience of development management and planning policy, legislation, and enforcement standards and guidance.
  • Effective people management skills with experience of employee performance and development.
  • Strong understanding of wellbeing and H&S, with ability to identify and implement safe working practices.
  • Good understanding of commercial practices, with accomplished negotiation and communication skills.
  • Able to lead specialist and multi-disciplinary project teams and manage multiple, large-scale, and complex projects.
  • Advanced use of a range of common and specialist software packages, including GIS and/or other ICT tools.
