Consultant Psychiatrist

The Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Psychological Medicine Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, contributing to the delivery of high-quality mental health services to the community.
The successful candidate will work closely with the existing consultant psychiatrist and medical psychotherapist to provide consultation and liaison with GP practices and neighbourhood practitioners across Stockport. This will involve developing and implementing a collaborative care model to support patients with medically unexplained symptoms, long-term conditions, and complex psychological/psychiatric difficulties.
Main DutiesThe Consultant Psychiatrist will be responsible for:
- Providing education, supervision, and consultation to GP practices and neighbourhood practitioners across Stockport.
- Developing and implementing an educational component to evaluate and develop the skills of health and social staff across the borough of Stockport in the clinical area of psychological medicine.
- Working closely with the Psychological Medicine Service to implement, deliver, and evaluate the service.
The post holder will work in a multidisciplinary team, liaising with Primary Care clinicians and managers, Primary and Secondary Care Mental Health Services, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless care for patients. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain good relationships with General Practitioners, the Clinical Commissioning Group, Social Services, and voluntary sector organisations.
Person SpecificationThe ideal candidate will be a Consultant Psychiatrist with a strong background in psychological medicine, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
The post holder will be expected to comply with legal obligations, maintain confidentiality, and participate in medical and multidisciplinary audit and other procedures for Clinical Governance.
Consultants have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of their departments. They are expected to undertake administrative duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of their clinical departments.
