Role Overview:

We are seeking a Senior or Principal Soils Consultant to join our Soils and Sustainable Land Management team. As a key member of our team, you will work collaboratively with technical specialists on a range of projects, leading and coordinating topic-specific input to Environmental Impact Assessments and related deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on the coordination and delivery of soil and land use assessments as part of Environmental Impact Assessments of a wide range of projects
  • Coordinate and lead soil and Agricultural Land Classification surveys
  • Undertake your own work to an excellent standard, and review the work of others
  • Work in partnership with other members of the Soils Team as well as the Impact Assessment Team and members of related discipline teams across the UK
  • Proactively manage selected projects or components of projects, taking responsibility for resource allocation, managing subcontractors and quality assurance
  • Lead and support tender proposal/bids - working as part of a project winning team
  • Provide soils and land use advice and support to clients, project managers and colleagues
  • Engage with consultees and stakeholders
  • Develop outstanding reports - an ability to summarise and explain outcomes to non-technical audiences will be critical for this
  • Manage projects, overseeing our performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety

Requirements:

  • Experienced soil consultant/scientist with experience of Environmental Impact Assessment, preferably within a consultancy environment or with experience of multi-disciplinary working and broad sector experience.
  • Experience of soil surveying, ideally including knowledge and experience of the Agricultural Land Classification system.
  • Member of the British Society of Soil Science and Chartered/working towards chartership with an accredited Institution.
  • Good knowledge of Environmental Impact Assessment and the planning process in relation to soils and land use.
  • Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills with experience in reviewing the work of others to ensure quality.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary working, with good project management and technical skills.
  • Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders.
  • Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management and quality assurance.
  • A valid UK driving license.
  • Desired: Knowledge and application experience of carbon accounting in relation to soils and land use.
