Control Specialist Role Overview

Marex is a leading global financial services platform, providing essential liquidity and market access to clients in the energy, commodities, and financial markets. The company operates four core services: Market Making, Clearing, Hedging, and Investment Solutions.

The Operational Risk team is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and managing operational risks while supporting the operational risk strategy and driving a proactive operational risk culture. As a Control Specialist, you will play a crucial role in assisting the Firm in this effort.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with business areas to manage and build out Risk Registers, ensuring accurate information and challenging where necessary.
  • Lead effective Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) reassessments, driving continuous improvement for designated areas as directed by Operational Risk Management.
  • Contribute to an effective risk presence, promoting risk discussions across Front, Middle, and Back Office areas, and building collaborative relationships across the business.
  • Support the broader Operational Risk team in implementing Operational Risk technology and reporting strategies.
  • Monitor and report on Risk Events and Operational Losses, completing Operational Risk assessments, escalating to management as needed, and actively supporting business areas in learning from lessons.
  • Perform thematic reviews into specific items as directed by Operational Risk Management.
  • Support data analytics across Business Risk Events, Emerging Risks, Trade Errors, and RCSA data.
  • Manage daily Business Incidents, conducting root cause analysis, and Operational Risk assessments.
  • Ongoing development of the Operational Risk Management Framework and rollout of individual components.
  • Support the integration of New Business.
  • Contribute to designing scenario analysis for ICAAP and ICARA.
  • Horizon scanning to identify external and emerging risks that may lead to new risk identification.
  • Maintain and improve Framework, Procedures, Policies, and Guidelines, including preparing Risk Flash Notices.
  • Contribute to Risk Committee reporting. Maintain strong relationships with second- and third-line assurance functions, participating in forums, and promoting information sharing.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of regulations and their application to internal operational processes and controls.
  • Experience in initiating and implementing change activities through to completion.
  • Strong team worker, able to take initiative to scope and lead enhancement work.
  • Able to deliver cultural change.
  • Effective report writing and oral communication skills, including ability to communicate complex requirements simply and translate them into viable business practices and procedures.
  • Ability to build constructive relationships and influence all levels of staff.
  • Able to balance commercial and regulatory requirements.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Risk or relevant field.
  • Strong Excel, Word, PowerPoint skills, and experience with internal IT systems.
Estimated Salary

$70,000 - $100,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
