About Us

Mustard Systems is a dynamic statistical consultancy company with a team of around 45 staff members, specializing in the modeling of sporting events. Our research applications span multiple sectors, including betting, insurance, finance, media, and advising coaches and owners of sports teams. Our goal is to accurately predict sports outcomes, achieved by combining large, rapidly changing datasets with our proprietary software and statistical models.

We thrive in a fast-paced environment that offers fresh challenges, which are both rewarding and enjoyable. Our ambition is to create exceptional systems in a highly competitive field.

In the upcoming year, we will be expanding our trading strategies and data feeds. This will involve:

  • Expanding the number of sports and markets we cover
  • Scaling up our price feed infrastructure to support many more sports, markets, and customers
  • Improving traders' visibility of our systems' activity to provide more insight into their operation

You will contribute to improving our systems, working closely with users who are quantitative analysts and sports traders, all of whom are knowledgeable and provide insightful feedback.

You will have the opportunity to work independently and take responsibility for our trading strategies and price feeds from inception to delivery.

The technology stack you will be working with currently consists of:

  • Python, primarily version 3.5+ for new projects and 2.7 in some legacy systems
  • Go for infrastructure services
  • Linux servers
  • PostgreSQL for data storage
  • ZeroMQ and RabbitMQ for backend communication
  • JQuery, React, and Vue.js for the frontend

You will have the chance to explore your own ideas and suggest new tools. Should we use standard library functions or third-party tools like ANTLR or Ragel? Could regular expressions solve the problem or would it introduce another issue? Would a sed script get the job done or is a better solution needed?

We're an open-source friendly company, preferring it when possible, but also pragmatic enough to know that closed-source alternatives may be a better choice at times. We believe tests are essential, but they should be used judiciously and in moderation. Running code that gets 95% of the job done can be preferable to perfect code with 100% test coverage delivered late.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you'll need a minimum of 5 years of commercial experience and a numerical degree or computer science from a top university. You don't need to be familiar with our specific technologies, although experience with multiple programming languages is a plus.

A background in software development is preferred; mathematical and numerical skills are a bonus. If you have a natural distrust of Microsoft and Apple products, you might be a good fit.
