Our net-zero targets are transforming the way we work and increasing the scope of the positive impact we can make. We're looking for talented individuals to join our team as Trainee Operational Delivery Engineers (field based).

As a member of our Network Services team, you will specialise in electrical fitting, underground cables, overhead lines, plant equipment, civil schemes, protection activities and be involved with planning and network design services including the installation and commissioning of complex schemes on the network and at operational sites.

The training programme provides on-the-job training and formal courses held in one of our Training Centre's at either Taunton or Tipton, over a period of approximately two years (depending on entry level qualifications). You'll spend your first 10 - 12 weeks being inducted onto the programme at one of our Training Centres.

Your Career Path

As a Trainee Operational Delivery Engineer, you'll have the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in a variety of areas, including electrical fitting, underground cables, overhead lines, plant equipment, civil schemes, and protection activities. You'll also be involved in planning and network design services, including the installation and commissioning of complex schemes on the network and at operational sites.

You'll receive a competitive starting salary of £25,642, which will increase as you become more experienced. In addition to this, you'll also receive a range of benefits, including:

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you'll need to have a GCSE in English AND Maths (Grade A*-C/9-4) and/or a relevant qualification such as an HNC/HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or a Degree in Maths, Physics, Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering.

You'll also need to hold a valid right to work in the UK and be able to travel to different locations across the National Grid service area. The apprenticeship programme takes around five years to complete and includes vocational and academic courses along with placements across our service areas.
