Job Description

We are seeking a talented Highway Design Engineer to join our teams in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

As a Highway Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative solutions for highway projects, working closely with our clients and stakeholders to deliver technical excellence.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking elements of design from road geometry, drainage, and pavement to road restraint systems and traffic signs and road markings.
  • Producing design outputs such as drawings, specifications, schedules, reports, and calculations to achieve the optimum solution for the project.
  • Working in close collaboration with your team and other design disciplines and having an appreciation of their role.
  • Ensuring deliverables are carried out within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Ensuring that solutions meet client needs and expectations are met/exceeded.
  • Liaising with our clients and contractors and supervising works on site when required.
  • Ensuring that all work is carried out to the Company's IMS, and current H&S legislation requirements.

You will take ownership and responsibility for the quality of work you produce and be fully committed to your professional development through a mix of our in-house training opportunities and engaging with professional institution activities.

Requirements:

  • A relevant degree and be working towards achieving a relevant professional qualification.
  • Experience of the planning and delivery of elements of highway projects or work packages on larger multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Experience of undertaking highway geometry design in accordance with the DMRB, and desirably Manual for Streets, using Bentley OpenRoads or Civils 3D software.
  • Experience of highway ancillary works design and MCHW specification production would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Strong experience of AutoCAD and a sound understanding of its integration with the BIM environment.
  • The confidence to present design solutions and progress both internally and externally to clients and stakeholders.
  • A desire to learn, progress, and challenge yourself.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
