Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our Component Engineering Base Engine Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing solutions to address challenging requirements, working on complex projects with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:- Design and packaging of core engine components, including major aluminium and cast iron castings, geartrain, valvetrain, drivetrain, and in-cylinder components.
- Components related to breather, cooling, and lubrication systems.
- FEAD systems.
- Working in a multi-disciplined team to ensure solutions meet customer, durability, and functional requirements.
- Developing solutions for issues arising from the Quality and Manufacturing environments.
- Developing strong relationships with suppliers to ensure design solutions are aligned to high quality and cost expectations.
- Supporting FMEA on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs.
- Conducting or generating reports to support component and system design reviews.
- Maintaining communication to peers, team leader, and stakeholders with progress against planned activities.
- Supporting field and production issues, determining root cause, putting in place containment actions, and developing permanent corrective actions.
- Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering).
- Knowledge of Core Engine systems such as Rotating Systems, Valvetrain, Castings, Lubrication, Breather, and Cooling systems.
- Good understanding of Component Manufacturing principles and processes.
- Good understanding of Manufacturing Assembly principles.
- Modelling and Detailing experience in CREO4.
- Design knowledge of engine and mechanical components and systems.
- Self-motivation and an ability to manage and deliver tasks to meet established commitments.
- Excellent communications skills and Teamwork.
- Experience of running and participating in FMEA.
- Ability to use CREO Simulate.
- Experience in component and engine validation and verification.
- Bolted joint and sealing experience.
- Design experience gained in the off-highway diesel or machine sector.
- Knowledge and usage of Team Centre – data management software.
- New design development following the APQP methodology.
- Familiarity with Microsoft O365 including Teams.
