We are seeking an experienced Lead Keeper to join our team at Colchester Zoo Limited. As a key member of our Animal Department, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the welfare and care of our reptile, amphibian, fish and invertebrate species.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in husbandry and animal management, with excellent practical skills and knowledge of water quality parameters and management. They will also possess strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to manage the animal section in the absence of the Team Leader and Deputy Team Leader.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage the animal section in the absence of senior staff
- Develop and implement safe working practices
- Deliver educational husbandry content to visiting groups
- Mentor and allocate work duties to staff members
Husbandry Skills & Experience:
7+ years' experience in a zoological collection
Excellent practical skills in animal husbandry
Good knowledge of water quality parameters and management
Leadership & Mentoring:
Ability to mentor and allocate work duties to staff members
Strong leadership skills
Health & Safety:
Proficient understanding of risk assessments
Working towards managing risk in a zoo environment
Communication & Presentation Skills:
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Skills & Experience:
Computer literate with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes
Trained in manual handling
Full driving licence
