Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead high-voltage switching operations up to 33kV, ensuring safe isolation, earthing, and switching processes.
  • Oversee operational BESS sites, guaranteeing high-voltage systems function optimally.
  • Ensure compliance with Electrical Safety Rules, CDM Regulations, and other relevant UK standards.
  • Issue permits and safety documentation for high-voltage activities.
  • Conduct risk assessments and prepare method statements for HV-related tasks.
  • Provide leadership to on-site electrical teams and manage contractors during site activities.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and service teams.
  • Report directly to the Senior Commissioning Manager, ensuring alignment on all project objectives.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of HV systems, identifying and addressing any issues.
  • Ensure maintenance and operation procedures are implemented effectively across operational sites.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Senior Authorised Person (SAP) certified up to 33kV.
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in high-voltage systems, particularly in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or utility-scale energy infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of high-voltage safety standards and industry best practices.
  • Experience managing both commissioning and operations of high-voltage infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with UK electrical safety regulations, such as the Grid Code.
  • Relevant health and safety qualifications (e.g., SMSTS/NEBOSH/IOSH).
  • Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to assist in a broad range of tasks across commissioning and operational phases.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in the renewable energy or utility-scale energy storage sector.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and remote monitoring of BESS operations.
  • Project management certifications, such as PRINCE2 or APM.
