About the Role:

GSL Education is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Secondary Teaching Assistant (EAL) to join our team of professionals in Sunderland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students during class activities and maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Utilize expertise in English as an Additional Language (EAL) to provide targeted support to learners.
  • Offer individual or small group support to students requiring additional assistance.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement effective teaching strategies.

Teaching Assistant Role:

  • Assist teachers in delivering lessons by preparing materials, setting up equipment, and supporting students during activities and group work.
  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to students who require additional help with understanding concepts, completing tasks, or staying focused.
  • Implement positive behavior management strategies to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support teachers in managing classroom behavior by providing reinforcement, redirection, and encouragement to students.
  • Work with teachers to differentiate instruction and adapt learning activities to meet the diverse needs and abilities of students.
  • Teaching Assistants may be required to work with students in their homes, deliver online work, and extension activities to challenge advanced learners and scaffold learning for students who require additional assistance.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a secondary school setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Demonstrate empathy, patience, and resilience when working with students facing academic or behavioral challenges.
  • Hold relevant qualifications or training in education, childcare, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of the curriculum is essential.

This role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection. Successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including providing an enhanced DBS on the update service or completing an application for a new check.
