Senior Accountant Job Description

The Senior Accountant will be a key member of the accounting and reporting team within EUI Finance in Cardiff, responsible for coordinating and delivering timely and accurate month-end reporting, regulatory reporting, and statutory accounts. This role requires experience in prioritizing multiple deliverables, with a clear understanding of regulatory and financial reporting processes and controls.

Main Responsibilities
  • Ownership of the month-end accounts for the UK Intermediary business, including liaison with other finance teams and Group Finance to resolve consolidation queries.
  • Supporting the preparation and review of statutory accounts.
  • Supporting the preparation and review of various regulatory and tax returns.
  • Reviewing work and journals prepared by accountants in the team.
  • Developing and improving existing control and accounting processes.
  • Leading the development and implementation of accounting processes and controls for new products or projects.
  • Researching technical accounting issues and preparing accounting papers.
  • Supporting the external audit process and internal audit activity, acting as a day-to-day contact for the entity.
  • Line management responsibility, including day-to-day leading, developing, and coaching a team of accountants/trainees.
  • Providing general support and completing ad-hoc tasks as required by the Finance Manager and Financial Controller.
  • Deputizing for the Finance Manager as necessary.
Key Skills and Qualifications
  • Qualified Accountant with a minimum of years post-qualification experience in a Financial Accounting role.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS.
  • A focus on supporting and developing individuals to empower them to achieve required outcomes.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and plan, and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders and teams.
  • Strong analytical, data interpretation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable with challenging and influencing a range of business stakeholders.
  • A continuous improvement mindset.
  • Self-motivator, proactive in all aspects of the role.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Understanding or experience working in the finance team of an insurance intermediary business.
  • Line management experience.
