Job Summary

GE Aviation is seeking a highly skilled Field Service Engineer to join our team. As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for preparing, performing, testing, and commissioning marine HV & LV Marine Propulsion Drive System related activities in support of new build, upgrade, and service-related projects.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Compliance and Safety
  • Comply with both Company and Customer EHS policies, procedures, and safe systems of work.
Technical Expertise
  • Maintain personal competence by completing all applicable training in line with company requirements.
  • Prepare, plan, test, and commission HV & LV Drive System upgrades and perform routine maintenance tasks and training across all GE Aviation UK customer base drive systems, both onshore and offshore.
  • Analyze, diagnose, and repair automation-related software and hardware defects across all drive systems installed across the GE Aviation UK customer base.
Documentation and Communication
  • Write, update, and maintain documentation in line with company procedures and best practice.
  • Provide technical support to both the customer and internal GE Aviation staff as required.
Team Collaboration
  • Liaise with the Engineering department, Fleet Managers, and other GE Aviation personnel as required to fulfill the role of Drive Field Service Engineer (FSE).
  • Form part of, and lead, an FSE team for various engineering activities as directed by Resource Managers.
Administrative Tasks
  • Carry out Marine service administrative tasks as directed by the marine service manager.

Requirements

  1. Qualifications
  • Higher National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, from a reputable College or University.
  • Alternatively, proven experience of work on complex Drive Systems.
  • Must be able to achieve Security Cleared clearance level from UK Security Vetting.
Experience
  • Experienced with PC/PLC equipment.
  • Experienced with HV & LV Variable Speed Drive control systems and hardware.
  • Understanding of networks and network equipment. Familiarization with Managed Network Switches is ideal.
  • Understanding of communication protocols like Modbus.
  • Electrical background.
  • Established record of site work.
  • Health and Safety trained.
  • Experience of work on HV & LV Drive Systems.
Desirable
  • Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
  • Valid Offshore survival training certificate.
  • Valid Passport to Safety training certificate, IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • Familiarity with IEC and marine classification society rules.
  • Full Clean Driving license.
Personal Qualities
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal in English.
  • Self-Motivated, Dynamic. Able to travel overseas on short notice.
  • Able to work fairly independently.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Customer focused.
  • Flexible attitude to working pattern is required.
  • Willing and eligible to work world-wide and offshore.
